Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today sought Rs 102.85 crore rupees from the Centre for construction of 134 model schools in the state which remain incomplete for want of funds.
Raje met HRD Minister Smriti Irani, seeking funds for the "half-done projects" for development of education in the state, a Rajasthan government statement said.
"Raje requested Irani to release Rs 102.85 cr for construction of 134 model schools in the state as it remained unpaid out of a centrally-sponsored scheme (CSS) sanctioned in 2011-12.
"Initial allocation for this scheme was 404.68 crore rupees, of which 301.85 crore rupees had been received, while the model school scheme was later removed from the list of centrally-sponsored schemes and setting-up of these school was handed over the state government. Therefore, the construction works of these schools got stalled," it said.
Raje demanded that financial support for model schools should continue from the Centre as envisaged by the initial plan.
She informed the Union minister that the state government was planning to develop one senior secondary school each as Adarsh School at all Gram Panchayats in Rajasthan. Under this, 9,895 Adarsh school will be developed in next three years.
For this, the state government sent proposals to the Centre for creating basic facilities in 2079 Adarsh schools during year 2015-16, but the Planning Approval Board (PAB) gave sanction for only 176 schools, it said, adding that she sought grants for the rest of the 1903 school.
