Rajiv Awas Yojana launched in J&K: Jora

The Jammu and Kashmir government today informed that a centrally sponsored scheme, aimed at rehabilitating slum dwellers, has been introduced in the state and a survey is underway to identify the people to be covered under the programme.
Replying to a question by BJP member Bharat Bushan in the Assembly, Minister for Urban local bodies and Urban Development, Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that centrally sponsored- Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) has been introduced for the development and welfare of people living in the slum areas of the state.
The minister said a survey is underway to identify the people to be covered under the scheme. He said in the first phase, Srinagar, Baramulla and Anatnag in the Kashmir province and Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur in the Jammu province would be taken up for execution of the scheme.
The minister said that the total population of the slum areas in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar is 2.07 lakh out of which 1,99,557 belong to Srinagar city and 7,997 slum dwellers are in the Jammu city.
Replying to another question by NC legislator Peer Afaq, the minister assured the House that a detailed project would be made for the development of lakelets of Khushalsar, Gillisar and Anchar in Srinagar district.
