"Normally a person active in politics is concerned with political role but it's for the first time that the country is witnessing a Prime Minister not only playing his political role but is also not behind in playing a social role," Singh said while launching an integrated waste management project in South Delhi.
In 2014, Modi launched Swachh Bharat Mission and it was for the "first time" in Independent India that the people holding top posts were seen holding brooms and cleaning roads, he said.
"It's a change of mindset that 1.5 crore people gave away subsidy benefit on one appeal of the Prime Minister. It's no mean feat," he said.
He said people are "losing faith" in politicians because of "gap" in their words and deeds and every political workers should remember to play his social role, besides political, to win the faith of the people.
The Minister also asked the three municipal corporations in the national capital to take up sanitation on a large scale and top the rankings of the cities in the country.
