Speaking at the Raising Day Parade of the national capital police, the Union home minister asked the force to create an atmosphere of security in the city so that the people feel safe.
"The arrest of Junaid (alias Ariz Khan), who was giving security agencies the slip for a decade, by the Delhi Police can not be praised enough. Also, the security arrangements made by it during the ASEAN summit proves that Delhi Police is capable of handling any kind of challenge," Singh said.
Addressing top officers and staff at the Kingsway Camp here, Singh called for adopting of policing methods followed in New York and Latin American cities.
"Crime Control is a big challenge. It requires working on long term planning and strategy as proved by the success in bringing down crime by the police in New York and Latin American cities like Bogota," Singh said.
He suggested officials of the force to keep updating their crime control strategy while working for more effective women and child safety measures, and traffic management in the city.
Singh also presented medals to the Delhi Police personnel. The best police station trophy was given to the SHO of Punjabi Bagh.
Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik underlined the challenges before the force while highlighting the drop in crime graph of the city.
An impressive march past was presented by Delhi Police contingents, including its dog squad and band. Police contingents from UP and Haryana also took part in the parade.
