Rajnath lays foundation stone of Infosys-Red Cross Sarai

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today laid the foundation stone for the construction of Infosys Red-Cross Sarai (IRCS) at the PGIMER here.
Singh, who arrived in the Union Territory this afternoon, laid the foundation stone in presence of Punjab Governor and UT Administrator V P Singh Badnore, Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, BJP leaders Sanjay Tandon and Avinash Rai Khanna, and UT Advisor Parimal Rai, among others.
A 'puja ceremony' was also held on the occasion, with Singh's arrival at the venue getting slightly delayed due to heavy rain.
Notably, PGIMER caters to patients from different parts of the country and to facilitate the patients and their attendants, the 'sarai' would be constructed.

Meanwhile, an official release said the land for the Sarai has been provided by the PGI to IRCS, Chandigarh and the construction will be done by Infosys Limited.

"The IRCS, Chandigarh will run the Sarai which will be constructed in 18 months at an approximate cost of Rs 12 Crore to be donated by the Infosys Limited," it said.
The total area of the site earmarked for the construction of Sarai Building is 40,000 square feet. The 316-bed facility has been designed to cater to the needs of the patients and the attendants visiting PGIMER, Chandigarh.
"The Red Cross Sarai will go a long way in solving the demands of patients and attendants. The building will be consisting of waiting lounge, cloak room, kitchen, dining, pharmacy, lifts etc," the release said.
In the function, the activities of IRCS, Chandigarh based on ongoing projects were displayed.
The wheel chairs and tricycles were also distributed to the physically challenged persons by the Union Home Minister.
Singh said the NDA government was committed to develop traditional medical practices. "Our government is promoting alternative medicine," he said.
He said that the NDA is committed to cleanse the Ganga river by 2019.
He said that research work on Indian traditional medical practices was not up to the mark.
He said that modern medical science considers medical stream as a mission. He said that there are many shortcomings in medical science in the country.
"In India there is not even one doctor and nurse behind 1,000 people. India's present medical infrastructure is not sufficient for providing better medical care," he said.
He said that "we need to prepare an integrated health care system instead of fragmented health care system".
He said that there is huge rush in hospitals as primary health care services are lacking in facilities.
Singh also inaugurated a block of super speciality in Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh.
