Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar today offered support to Arvind Kejriwal's agitation to press for suspension of some Delhi police officials and suggested that the Delhi Chief Minister might have had no other option when police do not listen to him.
"Neigbourhoods must be safe and secure for families and for women and children. If police that are supposed to ensure this don't listen to them, what is a government expected to do? Send a letter and tell the concerned citizens to go home and wait for a reply?," he said.
The MP said in a statement that Delhi police should be made accountable to the state government, saying law enforcement and community policing must be moved under it while some residual functions can stay under the central government.
"There is no option. If Delhi government is to be accountable for governance, the Delhi police must be reorganised and the law enforcement and community policing etc must be moved under Delhi government," he said.
