A five-day rally aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of conserving tigers and their habitat was flagged off from here today.
'Tiger Country Adventure Rally' is organised by the Vidarbha Economic Development Council under the technical support of Vidarbha Automotive Racing Association (VARA) and is the part of the VDC's 'Wagh Utsav' (tiger festival).
Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi flagged off the rally that comprises driving/riding, with four night halts, a VDC release said.
The rally would cover a distance of nearly 1800 kms for cars and bikes on tarmac and dirt tracks through best rally terrains via lush green teak and sal forests and ghat sections of the Satpura, and travel along Pench, Kanha, Pachmarhi-Satpura, Melghat Tiger Reserves and Bor Wildlife Sanctuary, before returning to city, it said.
The objective behind organising the event is to inculcate the love of forest among masses and in turn spread importance of their conservation by providing livelihood opportunities to local communities through tourism, it said.
The rally will run for two categories, namely the Adventure Rally, which is a competitive event to run on a Time Speed Distance (TSD) and on non-cumulative format and will involve secret route and time controls, and Adventure Safari, a non-competitive event and a pleasure drive cum adventure, but with a secret route, it said.
Enthusiasts from places like Raipur, Mumbai, Ludhiana and Coimbatore are participating in the rally, it added.
