Recitation of bhajans, sankirtans, reading of the Ramcharitamanas were organised by various organisations to mark the birth of Lord Rama.
The main attraction was the grand religious procession (Shobhayatra) beginning from the Poddareshwar Ram Mandir from Shanichar, in the central part of city.
Idols of Lord Ram, Mata Janaki (Sita), Laxman and Hanuman were placed in a specially decorated chariot and rituals were performed by guests before the procession began.
The procession went through the city's main streets before returning to the Ram Mandir in the wee hours.
A similar procession taken out from the Ram Nagar Ram Mandir in the western part of city passed through the main streets of posh localities.
There was a huge rush of devotees visiting Gad Mandir in Ramtek, about 40 kms near here today.
