Rama Rao devoted himself to service of society: Joshi

Veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi today said late party leader and former Sikkim Governor V Rama Rao symbolised "virtues and selfless work".
"He (Rama Rao) was a multi-faceted personality. He was a father figure to activists. I remember that he never hesitated to undertake any work for activists, going to Delhi and talking to everybody. A milk of humanity was oozing out of him.
"It was my good fortune that I had a long association with him. I learnt a lot from him. He was a sacred soul with a spotless life. I learnt a lot from him," Joshi said, speaking at a meeting organised in his memory.
81-year-old Rama Rao, who was one of the founders of Jan Sangh in undivided Andhra Pradesh, passed away here last month following a brief illness.
Recalling that he had about 55 years of association with late Rama Rao, Joshi said the departed leader led a simple life and devoted himself to service of society and party.
Veteran BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and late RSS leader Nanaji Deshmukh too had association with Rama Rao, Joshi said.

Describing Rama Rao as an 'Ajatasatru' (man without foes) in politics, Venkaiah Naidu said the late leader lived a life that stands as an ideal for political leaders to follow.
Leaders like Rama Rao should be taken as an inspiration at a time when there is a decay in high standards and values in public life, Naidu said.
Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said it was Rama Rao who initiated him into politics.
TRS Secretary General and MP K Keshav Rao, Telangana TDP president L Ramana, CPI leader K Narayana and several BJP and RSS functionaries also attended the condolence meeting.
Rama Rao was was elected to Legislative Council in undivided AP for four terms from 1966. Rama Rao, who was BJP president in AP, also served as the Sikkim Governor.
