Ramlila Ground 'Silence Zone' plea: HC says police, DPCB to

The Delhi High Court today asked the city police and the Delhi Pollution Control Board (DPCB) to decide a plea seeking to declare Ramlila Maidan as a 'Silence Zone' because noise created during the protests, rallies and dharnas affected the lives of nearby residents.
A bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Jayant Nath asked DPCB and also the Commissioner of Police to take a decision on the representation given by the petitioner Abdul Ghaffar Khan, a resident of Beriwala Bagh in Azad Market, within four months time.
The court also asked Khan to place the representation along with the court order before the authorities within 15 days.

The bench declined to accept the petitioner's representation, saying it was submitted before various authorities in November 2011.
"....The petitioner is granted liberty to make a fresh representation to the Delhi police and also DPCC in 15 days for their consideration. The authorities are directed to complete the exercise in four months," the order said.
In the petition, Khan cited several key protests including the 13-day-long Anna Hazare movement and said, "The residents of nearby areas of Ramlila Maidan are suffering from noise pollution due to frequent use of high volume of sound instruments and also the slogans shouted by the protesters.
