Srinivasan was asked by Bihar Director general of Police Abhayanand to investigate whether Singh or his kins had ever demanded safety cover apprehending threat to life amid circulation of such reports in the public domain.

"I have found out from Bhojpur district administration that neither Mukhiyaji nor his kin ever wrote to the district officials seeking security for him", Srinivasan told reporters here.

Bhojpur police too was not aware of whether Singh or his kin received any threat to their lives nor a written request was made for security cover to them.

However, the district authorities provided security guards to Singh's son Indu Bhushan soon after he wrote to the officials seeking security following the gunning down of the private militia chief near his house at Khopira village in Bhojpur district on June one, he said.

The state government had yesterday recommended a CBI probe into the case.

Meanwhile, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Amrit Raj said 17 people involved in violence and arson here the day after the killing have been arrested. Raids are on to nab the others.

The photograph of marauders, who were yet to be apprehended, based on video recordings would be published in newspapers and those who provide correct information about them would be rewarded, he said.
