Union minister and BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan today said former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Rama Mohana Rao has brought 'discredit' to late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa by saying Income Tax raids at his home and office would not have occurred had she been alive.
"Rao has brought discredit to the former Chief Minister by his alleged actions. Had she been alive and known about it, she would have permitted the raids and taken very severe action against him," he told reporters here.
Rao was trying to create "confusion" between AIADMK and the government officials, he said but did not elaborate.
Radhakrishnan pointed out that the raids at Rao's home and office in Chennai were only part of steps to eradicate corruption.
The BJP leader said it was not proper for AIADMK to blame the central government for the raids and pointed out that the Income Tax raids were carried out on specific information.
"The Income Tax officials are empowered to conduct raids," he said.
He said the Union government will not allow any person who commits wrong to escape.
