Police intervention proved lucky for a woman here when cops instead of filing a report of alleged rape against the accused decided to counsel him into fulfilling his promise of marriage to the complainant, after which he agreed to wed her soon.
A Muslim woman, who got engaged to Imran Usman in the neighbouring Burhanpur district approached police when he refused to marry her.
The accused had an affair with the woman and established physical relation with her following which they got engaged.
However, Imran for last two months avoided marrying her for some reason or the other following which the woman approached the police with a complaint of rape.
Police instead of straightaway sending the woman for a medical test, decided to counsel Imran in the presence of parents of both the parties.
Later, he agreed to marry the woman within a fortnight after an agreement was inked in the presence of police.
The woman's father thanked police for taking counselling route to sort out the entire matter.
The woman along with her mother lives in Burhanpur area while her father was working as a labourer in Mumbai.
