Rape cases: DCW chief appeals to HM to convene high-level meet

In the wake of recent incidents of two minors being allegedly raped in the national capital, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal today appealed to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to convene a high-level meeting of the Centre and the state.
She also urged him to notify thana-level committees to ensure effective accountability of the police.
"Shameful child rape continue in Del. Appeal to @BJPRajnathSingh call regular high level meet of Centre, State. Notify Thana Level Committee," Maliwal tweeted.
She also urged Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to notify the Victim Compensation Scheme for the benefit of assault victims.
The scheme calls for enhancing the upper limit of compensation to rape victims to Rs 5 lakh from existing Rs 3 lakh and for victims of acid attack to Rs 7 lakh from Rs 3 lakh.
"Despite Del Govt increasin compensation frm 3 to 12 lac, not notified by LG. Sent letters to LG, no response. Girl is in dire need of funds," she tweeted.

Maliwal also met the two rape victims. The 3-year-old currently admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital and the 4-year-old girl is recuperating at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital here.
The DCW chief recently had written to LG asking him reconsider his decision of scrapping the notification of the Thana-Level Committees. She also met Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday and and appealed to reconstitute the committees in the national capital.
Each Thana-Level Committee is led by the area MLA and comprises members from municipal bodies, RWAs, trade associations, student and labour representatives, SDM, Station House Officer and the ACP of the area concerned.
