RAS-2016: Commission receives record 4,09,516 applications

Over four lakh candidates have applied for Rajasthan State and Subordinate Service Combined Exam 2016 (RAS), the highest in its history, an official claimed today.
"4,09,516 applications have been received through online mode. 1,41,147 applicants are from backward category, 1,10,353 are from general category, 13,522 from special backward category, 80,537 from Schedule caste, 49,272 from schedule tribe, 41 from saharia, 1773 from tribal sub-plan SC, 12,870 from tribal sub-plan ST and one (male) from physically handicapped category," Chairman, Rajasthan Public Service Commission, Lalit K Panwar said.
This is the "highest" number of applications the commission has received so far, he said.

4,07,822 candidates had applied in 2013, Panwar said.
Last date to apply for RAS 2016 was June 25. The candidates will compete for a total of 725 posts.
The preliminary examination will be held on August 28.
