After the opening day's high, Rashid Khan was left struggling at the Delhi Golf Course today, but the Indian golfer said he was happy that he could pull things back and make a comeback.
Starting at the 10th hole, Rashid made a wrong club selection in the 17th hole and ended up with a double bogey, but recovered with an eagle at the first hole and then picked two more strokes to turn in three-under 69.
"Started from the 10th hole and I didn't hit the ball well. I was really struggling on the golf course. But I managed to hole two or three putts which was important. Made birdie on 16 from 20 feet and had a terrible double bogey on 17. Had a wrong club selection. Hit it over the green and made double," said Rashid, who still leads the field by four strokes after totalling 14-under 130.
"I made eagle on the first, made a good putt from 25 feet. Only three balls were inside of 10 feet, everything else were long putts. I wasn't hitting it close at all. Had another good birdie on seven from 25 feet and hit a good five iron to 12 to 15 feet and holed the putt. It was a good comeback on the back nine after being one over on the front nine. It was a really good comeback," added the Delhi golfer who had fired a career-best 11-under 61 yesterday.
Rashid said it was his short game that saved him today.
"I was not comfortable with my swing. Even at the range, I wanted to hit a few more balls but I didn't have time. It's okay, it's nothing serious. It was all because of my putting that I had a good comeback," he said.
"I just need to make sure I find more greens and hole more putts in the next two days. I'm putting really well. Just need to find more greens. Tomorrow morning, I'll work on my swing, spend half an hour more at the range with my coach.
