Rashmikaa stuns top-seed Salsa Aher in junior national tennis

It was a bad day for fancied players in the 27th adidas-MCC National Junior (under-18) clay court tennis championships here on Thursday as the top three seeds in the girls section were sent packing while the fourth seed in the boys event also crashed out.

The girls quarterfinals saw Rashmikaa Shrivalli Bhamidipaty of Telangana stun top seed Salsa Aher of Maharashtra 6-2, 7-5 while unseeded Reshma M of Karnataka defeated second-seed Kashish Bhatia of Delhi 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.

The third-seed Vanshika Choudhary of Uttar Pradesh, lost 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 to Sarah Dev (Punjab).

Fourth-seed Kaavya Sawhney (UP) survived the seed-bashing, easing past Vanshita Pathania of Karnataka 6-4, 6-2.

In the boys event, top seed Dev Javia of Gujarat and third seed Kabir Hans (Odisha) advanced but fourth-seed Krishan Hooda (Haryana) lost to Kerala's Akhilendran Indrabalan 6-7, 4-6.

The boys doubles final will see Sushant Dabas and Krishan Hooda (Haryana), the top-seeds, take on the second seeded pair of Madhwin Kamath and Ajay Malik.
