Members of the Council handed over a memorandum, addressed to the President of India, to a local Additional District Magistrate demanding justice and claimed that innocent people had been framed in the case.
The only way to convince the families of the victims of the Batla House encounter that justice had indeed been dispensed, was to order a judicial inquiry headed by a judge of the Supreme Court, Spokesman of the Ulema Council, Motiur Rab, said.
"The failure of the Central government to institute such an inquiry suggested that the government was not interested in bringing out the truth connected with this incident in which two students of Jamia Millia University and a police inspector were killed," he alleged.
The battle against terrorism will succeed if the real culprits receive exemplary punishment and innocents are not framed, he said.
