Put into bat by Baroda, the visitors' top order put up a steady performance and even though wickets fell at regular interval, the team was comfortably placed at the end of the opening day.
For Baroda, left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh was the pick of the bowlers with a haul of four for 92 runs in 26 overs.
J&K, who upstaged 40-time champions Mumbai in their opening match before losing heavily to Tamil Nadu in the second, did not score at a very brisk pace with openers Shubham Khajuria and Adil Reshi putting on 93 runs in over 30 overs.
Ian Dev Singh (38) and Bandeep Singh (37) also made decent contributions before Rasool took charge.
