The Aam Aadmi Party today announced Rattan Singh Kakkar Kalan as party's nominee for the Shahkot by-poll which will be held on May 28.
The name of Kakkar Kalan was announced during a meeting of state leadership which was also attended by AAP senior leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia here.
"Rattan Singh Kakkar Kalan will be AAP's contestant from Shahkot assembly seat," AAP Punjab unit co-president Balbir Singh said here today.
Kakkar Kalan is secretary of party's district unit (rural) in Jalandhar, he said.
The Shahkot Vidhan Sabha seat fell vacant following the death of the incumbent MLA and senior SAD leader Ajit Singh Kohar in February this year.
The Congress had already announced Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia as its contestant for by-poll to Shahkot Assembly seat.
Meanwhile, Singh said AAP will roll out its own newspaper 'Aap ki Kranti' in Punjab. "The paper Aap Ki Kranti will be lauched within three months," said AAP Punjab unit co-president.
