Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today urged the banks to extend their services to remote rural areas of the state and assured them of all help required in the process.
"Making banking services available to people in the rural areas is of utmost importance to us and we are ready to provide all necessary support to banks which come forward for the cause, he said while addressing the 58th state level meeting of the bankers' committee.
He asked the banks to simplify their mandatory procedures and develop a public-friendly atmosphere in their offices so that more and more people could benefit from government programmes.
In a bid to make loans available for maximum people, Rawat said the banks should set a target of effecting a 5-10 per cent reduction in the rate ofloan applications rejected by them annually
He also advised the banks to set a target of providing loans to at least five per cent of youths from economically backward sections and make entrepreneurs out of them.
