Ray put Indian cinema on international arena : Bengal Guv

Satyajit Ray had put Indian cinema on the international arena, West Bengal Governor Kesharinath Tripathi said today, the 96th birth anniversary of the maestro.
"The contribution of Ray towards the growth of Indian film industry can't be described in one word. He is the one having put our cinema on the international arena," Tripathi said at the 7th convocation of Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI).
The governor, who inaugurated the convocation, praised the institute for producing quality filmmakers and shaping future of students and asked them to put their learning for public good and effectively use their knowledge.

He said the audio visual media is playing a vital role in safeguarding values of the nation.
The Chairman and head of Prasad Studio, Chennai, Ramesh Prasad, SRFTI Director Debamitra Mitra, Dean of the institute Shymal Karmakar and Registrar BDM Ambedkar were present on this occassion.
Mitra said 73 students of the 9th and 10th batch of the institute were awarded degrees along with trophies at the convocation today.
The premier film training institute, governed by an autonomous body, is under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India.
