Following claims by Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu and Labour Minister Danam Nagender that they received "signals" from the Centre on creation of Telangana state, Infrastructure and Investments Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao announced in Visakhapatnam this evening that they would resign from their posts and launch an agitation to keep the state united.
"We have no signals about bifurcation of the state. If at all there are such indications, we will quit our posts and launch an agitation for the cause of unified Andhra Pradesh," Ganta said.
Leaders from Andhra-Rayalaseema regions, setting aside their party affiliation, would meet in Hyderabad on January 17 to discuss the statehood issue and a plan of action to keep the state united, he added.
Already Congress MP from Anantapur Ananta Venktarami Reddy announced they would resign from their posts if at all the Centre took a decision in favour of Telangana.
Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal said he would quit politics completely if the state was bifurcated.
