"Unlike in 90s when we would have a packed calendar in this part, we were having just one event here... So we thought of bringing one more event so as to revive the sport in this part," PGTI director Uttam Singh Mundy told PTI.
"We expect a top draw as there's no event on the Asian Tour during that period. We're hopeful of getting a title sponsor soon."
With no events in the Asian Tour calendar from March 20-May 12, PGTI also have two more new events in BTI Open in Kumirtola Golf Course Bangladesh (March 30-April 2) and Pune Open (April 6-9) which will follow the Kolkata Classics.
Kolkata Classics would be the sixth event in the PGTI calendar that was out last week. Cochin Masters from February 10-13 will be the first event of the 2016 calendar.
