The CSR arm of realty firm Sobha Limited, 'Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust', organised a dowry-less social wedding ceremony at Palakkad district in Kerala recently.
The initiative witnessed a batch of 22 girls tying the nuptial knot.
The social wedding ceremony is conducted twice every year wherein an average of about 40 girls get married with the help of the Trust, a company release said here today.
On the initiative, P N C Menon, Chairman Emeritus of Sobha Limited, said, "It is indeed a joyous occasion for all of us. We are happy that this initiative of ours, started since 2003, has set a unique example towards eradicating the societal malaise of dowry."
He also said that as part of the company's social responsibility, they would continue to extend complete support towards conducting more mass marriages in the future.
Aimed at supporting girls from economically weaker sections of society, this programme of the Trust has successfully completed 490 marriages so far.
The Trust takes up all the wedding expenditure. The girls along with their parents are given pre-marriage counselling with emphasis on health, hygiene and behaviour, which has benefited them, the release said.
Organised at Sri Kurumba Kalyana Mandapam, Moolamcode in Palakkad, the ceremony witnessed the participation of dignitaries from various walks of life, it added.
