Rebellinon brewed in opposition Congress Legislative Party in Goa today against the leadership of Pratapsingh Rane as seven out of the party's nine MLAs demanded his ouster and efforts by the party's central leadership to end the revolt appears to have met with little success.
The trigger for leadership change demand came when Rane, as a part of the Business Advisory Committee of Legislative Assembly, accepted the newly-introduced norm of allowing the legislators to table a limited number of questions in the House.
The Congress MLAs are upset with the veteran leader for not being up to the mark in taking up the issues raised by the party and for "capitulating" to ruling BJP over the issue.
Congress legislator Atanasio Monserratte told PTI tonight that seven legislators were of the view that Rane should be replaced by another leader to head the party in the assembly whose session starts tomorrow.
Though the Congress high command has already deputed All India Congress Committee Secretary A Chellakumar to defuse the crisis, differences continue to simmer in CLP.
"I feel that as a Leader of the Opposition, he (Rane) is shying away from the responsibility. A leader should set an example and I don't think he (Rane) is doing that," Monserratte said before meeting Chellakumar at Dona Paula near Panaji.
Seven legislators, excluding Aleixo Reginald and Mauvin Godinho, met Chellakumar at Dona Paula today.
