Naxals today killed their former colleague at a village in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district as he quit the Maoist movement, police said.
"35-year-old Shivaji was shot dead by rebels, dressed as civilians, in Kottapal village under Bijapur police station limits," Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.
Shivaji was a divisional committee member rank cadre of outlawed CPI (Maoist) and was active in western Bastar region before quitting the movement in 2012.
Since then, he has been staying in Bijapur town.
As per preliminary investigation, today, Shivaji along with his wife, went to Kottapal, around 4 kms away from Bijapur town, where Naxals were waiting for him.
When they reached near a pond in Kottapal, rebels gunned down Shivaji with a pistol and fled from the spot, he added.
