Recording of past important: Prez

Study of the past is important as it can help society deal with the challenges that arise before it from time to time, President Pranab Mukherjee has said.
In his remarks on a book authored by Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt, the President said that, "Recording of the past is important as it throws light on many issues that society has to grapple with from time to time."
The book, 'Reflections on Contemporary India', was released by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar at Rashtrapati Bhavan who later presented the first copy to the President.
Mukherjee also noted that, "Civil servants have made important contributions to nation building", according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement today.

Mukherjee said that the book would make for "interesting reading and would be useful in formulating policies and help in decision making.
