The digitisation work of nearly 50 lakh documents belonging to erstwhile Marwar kingdom that included present districts of Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Barmer and Jalore is underway, and the digitised documents will be made available online by the state Archive directorate here.
The project, which began a few months back, will completed by January 2015, Dr Mahendra Khangarot, Director- Rajasthan state Archive told PTI.
The documents were with the state archive originally and under an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year with the Mehrangarh Museum Trust, run by the erstwhile royal family of Jodhpur, the records are being digitised by a private firm and the expenditure will be borne by the trust.
The original record will remain with the archive, he said, claiming that was first of its kind initiative to digitise records relating to princely kingdom.
The project will not only help researchers access the documents, but also preserve the record for a longer period, Mahendra Singh from Mehrangarh Museum Trust- Jodhpur said.
