Recruitment: HC orders notices to authorities

The Madras high Court today ordered issue of notice to the Chief Commissioner for persons with disabilities and Director General of Ordnance Factories on a petition seeking a stay the direct recruitment of 1572 Chargemen for non-inclusion of visually challenged persons under reservation for differently abled persons.
The petitioner S Vincent submitted that the entire quota for the disabled persons had been reserved only for hearing impaired persons and oathpaedically handicapped persons.
Many persons were working successfully with low vision in Ordnance Factories in the country and other factories. Completely neglecting a particular category of persons with disability was violative of the Persons Disabilities (equal opportunities,protection of rights and full participation)Act 1995, the petitioner submitted.
He also sought a direction from the court to ensure that persons with low vision or blindness were also provided equal opportunity in the recruitment.
Justice S Tamilvanan and Justice V S Ravi ordered notice to the officials returnable within two weeks.
