Red sanders (sandalwood) logs worth Rs 8.96 crore were seized by a team of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from a godown at Nadiad town of Kheda district today, officials said.
"On the basis of specific inputs, DRI officers from Ahmedabad and Gandhidham divisions raided a Nadiad-based godown today and found a consignment of red sanders logs being stuffed into a container," a DRI officer said.
The officer said that the total weight of red sanders logs found in the godown was 14.935 metric tonne, valued in the international market at around Rs 8.96 crore.
Specific intelligence inputs were gathered by the DRI that red sanders logs were being exported illegally in a container stuffed along with marble slabs from Udaipur district of Rajasthan.
Allegedly, the plan was to route the container of marble through a godown at Nadiad, where it would be replaced with red sanders logs, the DRI officer said.
Investigation are on to find out the destination of the consignment and who are involved in it.
