Red sanders seized from port

Over two tonnes of red sanders meant for illegal export was today seized by Customs official at the Tuticorin port here, port sources said.
Customs officials found the wood worth about Rs 20 lakh when they checked a container lorry on suspicion. It was brought from Madurai for illegal export through a certain agency.
No arrest has been made in this connection, they said.
The wood is in great demand abroad, especially in China and Japan, where it commands a good price.
