The sophomore run of John Ridley's examination of race, religion and crime in America will tell an entirely new story, reported Variety.
Season one alumni Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton have already announced their involvement in season two, with confirmation now coming that King will be back as well.
"American Crime" creator Ridley announced King's return: "Regina is phenomenal in all regards, and is going to be at the centre of a story that deals with physicality, sexuality, and societal boundaries with the same urgency as our first season dealt with race and faith.
King had a supporting part in "American Crime" first season as a woman whose conversion to Islam alienated some friends and family.
"American Crime" was picked up for a second season by ABC in May.
