A day after Investment Promotion Board (IPB) stuck down the proposal of a ropeway connecting Panaji to neighbouring Reis Magos, State run Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has said that they will explore other means to get the project executed.
The IPB which met under the chairmanship of chief minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday had withdrawn permission given to 17 different projects which fall in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
"We had moved the proposal before IPB to get the project of ropeway executed faster. But now since they have refused it, we will have to go through regular process to get it sanctioned," GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral said.
Cabral said that the GTDC has already acquired around 300 square metres of land for the project which will have to be converted by putting up proposal before State Town and Country Planning Board.
"This is a green project and hence I see no reason for it to get scuttled during the regular process. It is not an industry but a project of the state government to promote tourism," Cabral said.
The ropeway project, costing Rs 100-crore, and to be executed on the Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer basis was to connect Panaji to Reis Magos across River Mandovi.
The GTDC had also signed an agreement with a private firm Royal Rides Private Limited to implement the project.
Besides regular ropeway cars taking people over the picturesque Mandovi River, the project is also expected to have 4Dimension Acquarium, Revolving Restaurant, Artificial Skiing among other attractions.
