Relatives refuses to accept body

Tension prevailed in Srivaikuntam since the relatives of Baskar, a Puthiya Tamizhagam functionary who was murdered by a gang near a petrol bunk at Pudukudi refused to accept the body, kept in the mortuary at the Medical College Hospital today.
The agitated relatives were firm in their demand to include the youth wing secretary of the Forward Bloc, as an accused in the murder case.
A large posse of police was deployed in several parts of Srivaikuntam in the district regulatory order under Crpc 144 had been promulgated.
Police said "as the situation is tense regulatory order has been promulgated in and around Srivaikuntam."
Police had late last night arrested five persons in connection with the murder of Baskar on Sunday night.
Police had earlier arrested two persons in connection with the murder.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Tirunelveli Range) Sumit Saran, Superintendent of Police M Durai and other police officers were camping in Srivaikuntam to maintain law and order.
