"We are extremely thankful to the West Bengal government for doing the needful by holding talks with the Mizoram and Bangladeshi governments seeking my release," Mondal told reporters at the state secretariat here.
Mondal, who was accompanied by his brother to Nabanna to meet Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee, said his abductors tortured him mentally and made him spend endless nights in the jungles feeding on insects and other undesirable things.
"Their only demand was arrange Rs five crore as ransom money, failing which my brother will be killed," he said.
They evaded replies when asked whether the abductors were paid the ransom.
Mondal said that he was averse to any assignment in the Northeast region and also dropped a hint of seeking a job in the state administration.
Mondal was abducted from Mizoram and taken to the Chittagong hills in Bangladesh.
