Gurmukh Singh, a religious hymn-singer, bard and an Shiromani Akali Dal activist, was returning to his home in Bhullarai village on his scooter when a truck hit him from behind killing him on the spot, police said.
The truck driver has been arrested and the vehicle has been impounded, they said, adding a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered against him.
