Religious fervour marks Maha Shivrathri

People thronged Saivite temples to offer prayers to Lord Shiva on the occasion of Maha Shivrathri today.
The day was observed with religious fervour and spiritual zeal with devotees observing fast and offering prayers, fruits and flowers to Lord Shiva.
Devotees turned up in large number at the Ambalathadum Swamigal Mutt in the town as the religious institution is associated with the 'Thiruvasagam' the magnum opus of the saivite exponent Manikavasagar.
Special poojas at midnight attracted a large number of devotees, young and old.
