Religious groups tried to influence voters in Tripura: CPI(M)

Ruling CPI-M in Tripura today alleged that some religious groups had tried to influence voters against the Left Front during the February 14 state assembly elections.
"We have observed that some Christian missionary groups, Hindu groups like RSS and Banabasi Kalyan Ashram had tried to influence voters in the name of religion against the Left Front," CPI-M state unit secretary Bijan Dhar told reporters here.
"It is a crime to influence voters in the name of religion and it is also a matter of concern," he said.
The party state committee analysed the election results in its two-day meeting beginning from March 31 and found that the Left Front had received 1.14 per cent more votes compared to the 2008 assembly elections, he claimed.

The Front secured 52.1 per cent votes and won 50 seats in the 60-member Tripura assembly.
