The process of relocating of CRPF personnel from Gagran camp in curfew-bound Shopian would commence from tomorrow and the process would be completed in a few days, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti claimed today.
"Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar has assured me that the process of shifting of the camp from Gagran will start tomorrow morning," Mehbooba, who visited the south Kashmir town, said in a statement here.
Mehbooba said the DIG discussed with her the shifting of the camp which has been a "source of trouble" for the entire area for several years.
"There have been numerous complaints of serious human rights violations against the camp ranging from torture, illegal custody and enforced disappearance," Mehbooba said, adding, "The DIG assured me that the shifting process would be completed in a few days."
On September 12, the state government ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of five persons by CRPF outside Gagran camp on September 7 and September 11 and ordered replacing of the CRPF personnel with Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police at the camp.
Mehbooba said police has also registered an FIR in connection with the killings after she threatened to stage an indefinite sit-in in support of the demand of local residents for shifting of the CRPF camp and registration of a case.
She said she told the local administration that she would sit on an indefinite dharna in the centre of the curfew-bound town till the two demands of the people were met.
The PDP President said Superintendent of Police, Shopian, Mumtaz Ahmad earlier met her at the government guest house and promised that FIR would be registered soon.
