Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said derogatory remarks about women by BJP's Vinay Katiyar and JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav were neither acceptable to the government nor his party and hoped that the two senior leaders would withdraw them.
"Any derogatory remark against anybody is not acceptable to the party. And what I learnt from the media about comments made by Vinay Katiyar ji and Sharad Yadav ji... They are not acceptable to us. Neither the party nor the government supports them," he told reporters here.
"I hope these two seniors withdraw their comments. In politics, we are rivals but not enemies. While speaking about women, we should keep our values in mind," the minister said.
Katiyar and Yadav today whipped up a row with their sexist remarks about women, including Priyanka Gandhi, drawing a fusillade of criticism.
An outraged Congress denounced Katiyar's comments as "insulting Indian womanhood" and demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
