Sapan Kumar Murmu, a renowned doctor and Superintendent of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, passed away today following brief illness.
He was 58 and survived by wife and son, family sources said.
Murmu complained of chest pain early in the morning and was rushed to VIMSAR and admitted in the central ICU, but he died due to acute myocardial infarction, doctors said.
A renowned paediatrician, Murmu started his career at VIMSAR and held various important posts. He was also Head of the Department of Paediatrics at VIMSAR.
A pall of gloom descended on Burla as the news of his death spread. Hundreds of people rushed to the residence of Dr Murmu to pay tributes.
