In his letter, Kurien is learnt to have explained that the issue is being raked up after such a long gap as a political conspiracy and that there were governments even by the opposition Left during these years but nothing came out against him. He vehemently countered the charge of rape against him in the letter. Earlier, CPI-M leader Brinda Karat had written to the Rajya Sabha Chairman demanding steps to protect the dignity of the constitutional post of Deputy Chairman. "In the light of the Supreme Court judgement for reinvestigation in the main petition, it is unthinkable that an individual accused in the case by the victim, can occupy the Chair until he is cleared," she had said.
