Describing today's repolling at 36 booths spread over five districts of West Bengal as "peaceful", the State Election Commission said over 70 per cent polling was recorded.
"Around 70 per cent polling is recorded in today's repolling at 36 booths. However, the per cent is likely to go up as we are still waiting to get some confirmed reports from our officials at few places," State Election Commissioner Sushanta Ranjan Upadhaya said.
The Commission yesterday decided repolling to 36 booths, following reports of booth-jamming, booth-capturing, theft and damage of EVM machines from these booths during the April 25 polling.
Today there were no report of any violence from any of these booths, he said.
"Repolling was absolutely peaceful today and we have no report of any untoward incident from any of the booths. There were more than sufficient police posted at these areas to take care of any situation," he said.
Repolling was conducted today from 7 AM to 3 PM in both the districts of North and South 24 Parganas besides Burdwan, Birbhum and Darjeeling.
Among the 36 booths, North 24 Parganas alone had 24 with Bashirhat (6), Titagarh (5), Bhatpara (8), Taki (3) and Garulia (2).
Besides, repolling was conducted in eight booths of Burdwan's Katwa and one booth each in Birbhum's Saithia and Rampurhat and in one booth each of South 24 Parganas' Maheshtala and in Darjeeling's Siliguri.
