Turkey's state-run news agency says Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's son has testified to prosecutors investigating a bribery and corruption probe that reportedly involves the operations of an educational foundation run by family members.
Anadolu Agency says Erdogan's son 33 year-old Bilal Erdogan gave a statement to three Istanbul prosecutors on February 5. It did not provide further details.
Bilal Erdogan's testimony comes weeks after the government replaced several prosecutors and police leading corruption probes that targeted people close to the prime minister. Opposition parties accuse the government of stalling the investigations.
Erdogan says the corruption probes, which forced him to sack four government ministers in December, were instigated by followers of a moderate Islamic movement he claims is trying to discredit the government ahead of elections in March.
