Turkish media reports say a former television presenter has been detained for posting a tweet suggesting a cover-up in a government corruption scandal, in a new case highlighting deteriorating media freedoms in the country.
Sedef Kabas told Radikal news website today that she was being questioned by police after telling her Twitter followers not to forget the name of a judge who dropped a corruption and bribery probe earlier this year. The government didn't immediately confirm Kabas' detention.
The scandal led to the ouster of four ministers. The government, citing a plot to remove it from office, then reassigned hundreds of police, prosecutors and judges. A judge later closed the case.
Last week, a teenager was briefly arrested at his school for allegedly insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
