Republic day celebrated in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh

Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today joined the naion in celebrating the 65th Republic day with hoisting of tri-colour and colourful parades amidst tight security arrangements.
Celebrations went off peacefully as no untoward incident was reported from any part of the region, officials said here.
However, in Amritsar, a mob allegedly attacked workers of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), leaving several people injured in the incident. AAP workers were attacked by unruly crowd when they assembled at Ram Bagh garden to celebrate Republic Day.
Contingents of police, homeguards and NCC among others participated in the parades held at several district headquarters in the two states and their joint capital Chandigarh.
School students presented colourful programmes while tableaux were taken out depicting the overall development of the states at parades.
The parades and celebrations at most places in the region were held under foggy weather conditions.

Punjab Governor Shivraj V Patil and his Haryana counterpart Jagannath Pahadia unfurled the tri-colour at Patiala and Gurgaon respectively, while Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda took salute at Ludhiana and Nuh in Mewat respectively.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal hoisted the national flag at Bathinda.
In Chandigarh, K K Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator, unfurled the tri-colour and took the salute.
The functions to mark the Republic Day were organised at other district headquarters in Punjab and Haryana including Jalandhar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Moga, Ambala, Gurgaon, Karnal, Rohtak and Hisar where ministers of two states took the salute.
Tight security arrangements were put in place in the two states and UT Chandigarh to ensure no untoward incident takes place during the Republic Day celebrations.
