Republican lawmakers: US House leader to resign

The leader of the US House of Representatives, Speaker John Boehner, has informed Republicans that he will step down at the end of October.
Boehner took over the speakership, one of the most powerful jobs in Washington, in January 2011.
Rep John Mica said today that Boehner "just does not want to become the issue. Some people have tried to make him the issue both in Congress and outside.
