An orphaned Himalayan Serow which was rescued four years back has been translocated to a mini zoo in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, official sources said.

Himalayan Serow is a goat antelope found in the eastern Himalayas. Goat antelopes owe their name to their physical characteristics, which are intermediate between those of the stockily built goats and the long-legged antelopes.

The animal which was taken to the mini zoo at Miao was rescued by an wildlife enthusiast Waren Aboh from the hills of Khonsa in Tirap district four years back, the sources said.

Aboh kept the goat antelope under his care for over three years and after that Tirap Deputy Commissioner P N Thungon had voluntarily taken care of the orphaned animal.

For conservation and protection of the serow, Thungon decided to translocate the Serow to the Mini Zoo at Miao, the sources said.
