Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Assembly Rameshwar Dudi today said he respected the high court verdict quashing a 1999 order granting OBC quota to Jats in Dholpur and Bharatpur districts, but added that they too are equally eligible for reservation.
"Now it is the Rajasthan government's responsibility to ensure that the OBC commission completes its review work in four months as directed by the high court which quashed OBC quota for Jats in districts of Dholpur and Bharatpur," Dudi said in a statement here.
"Everyone has faith and respect in judicial decision, so do I," Dudi said.
However, Dudi demanded the Jat community in the districts of Bharatpur and Dholpur be reconsidered for quota because all Jats did not belong to "Raj Pariwar" (Royal Family).
"Jats of every district in Rajasthan are equally eligible for quota, if any, because they are also hard working farmers and shall come under provisions or norms of quota as it is given to other communities which are economically weak," Dudi said.
Earlier in the day, Rajasthan High Court quashed a 1999 order granting OBC quota to Jats in Dholpur and Bharatpur districts of the state with prospective effect and directed that the OBC commission review status of all communities in the category within four months.
A bench of Chief Justice Sunil Ambwani and Justice Ajit Kumar Singh gave the order while hearing a bunch of petitions challenging the granting of reservation to Jats and other communities under OBC category through a notification dated November 3, 1999 by the state government.
The order was issued by Rajasthan pursuant to a central government notification including Jat and other classes in the category in October 1999.
